Since the first Indians landed in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1904, Indians have grown into one of the largest and most vibrant communities in Canada, the third largest after Chinese and Filipino communities. In 2013, 33,000 Indians were issued permanent residence visas.

These days, the largest communities of Indians are located in British Columbia and Ontario, with 300,000 Indian Canadians residing in Toronto alone. Many Indian newcomers have gone on to work in major Canadian industries such as healthcare, science and IT.
