Irish emigration to Canada began in the 19th century, particularly when many Irish families were driven from their native country because of the Potato Famine. The majority settled on the East Coast, particularly Ontario and the Atlantic Provinces, but since then many have migrated further across the country to live and work in British Columbia, Alberta and more.

There are currently approximately 22,000 Irish expats in Canada, and many more Canadians claim Irish heritage. The Irish play an important part in Canadian society, and many more Irish newcomers arrive in Canada every year.
